If you sleep late whenever you can, then you are probably not part of the sleepless elite. Even if they have an opportunity to sleep more, true short sleepers won’t sleep late. NERD NOTE: One of the easiest ways to determine if you are a short sleeper is if you sleep late on vacation or weekends. Do you wake up early without an alarm clock, even on weekends or while on vacation?.Do you ever feel like you need to catch up on sleep?.Do you have a high tolerance for physical pain?.Are other members of your family natural short sleepers?.Are you upbeat, optimistic, and outgoing?. ![]() Do you usually wake up before 7 am without an alarm clock?.Being a short sleeper won’t increase your lifespan, but it will enable you to live a much fuller and more productive life. Famous sleepless elite members like Thomas Edison, Barack Obama, Martha Stewart, and Donald Trump have all used their spare time to excel in their professional lives. Over a lifetime, it can add up to about 15-20 extra years. That’s almost a full day of spare time over a week. Those three extra hours a day add up to 21 hours over seven days. Just imagine how much more time you would have if you could shave off 3 hours from the standard 8-hour sleep cycle per day. One of the things that we probably all want more of is time. You’re either born a short sleeper or not. Being classified as part of the sleepless elite isn’t like joining a club or fraternity. And if you’re wondering how to become a member of the sleepless elite, you can’t. This small group of people, only 1% to 3% percent of the population, draw both admiration and jealousy from the rest of us. Are you a night owl and an early bird at the same time?
